People gathered in the nation’s capital on Saturday to honor this boat.
A mock funeral, hosted by financial management platform Ramp, was held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, after the cent’s production ended, FOX 10 reported.
Attendees circled the casket as speakers delivered eulogies – including actors portraying former President Abraham Lincoln and former First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.
An image made entirely of pennies depicting Abraham Lincoln – whose image appears on the coin – was also displayed at the event, according to the Associated Press.

Actors portraying Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were among the mourners, along with a portrait of John Wilkes Booth, Abraham Lincoln’s assassin, FOX 10 reported.
The crowd included people dressed as Santa Claus and Pennywise, the character from “It.”
Ramp economist Ara Kharazian has released an “autopsy report” detailing the penny recession.
The funeral follows last month’s nationwide strike by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, which officially marks the end of the penny’s production.
The penny has been part of US currency since the beginning. It was first authorized under the Coinage Act of 1792.

For more than 230 years, the penny has been circulating in American piggy banks and cash registers.
But rising production costs — each pen now costs about 4 cents to make — and changes in consumer behavior, such as the rise of digital payments, have made it difficult to continue producing them.

“For too long, the United States has made pennies worth more than 2 cents,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This is a huge waste! I have ordered my US Treasury Secretary to stop minting new pennies.”
