The mental image of a Target shopping cart collector going haywire and swinging a long, winding snake of red baskets in my car is the worst kind of worst nightmare, because who wants to spend time on the phone arguing with insurance agents about something stupid?

What happens when AI creatures become self-aware to the point where they feel real emotions and want to pursue a greater purpose? What happens when something designed as a practical tool wants to be more than that? Do we respect those desires and learn to live with each other, or do we shut out the temptation altogether? These are the questions Professional Girl response efforts, and you may not like what it says about where we are headed.

Professional Girl it unfolds through three distinct actions, each amplifying the moral problems we want you to combat. First, we introduce Gareth (Franklin Ritch), who is caught by Deena (Sinda Nichols) and Amos (David Girard) for conducting a controversial operation that uses a girl named Cherry (Tatum Matthews) to catch rapists. At first believing that Cherry is a real baby being used as food, Gareth reveals that she is an artificial intelligence of his own creation. He explains that technology has improved while he was trained in different ways of languages, he is now able to think independently.
After asking for complete privacy, Gareth makes a deal with Deena and Amos to continue developing technology to use against sex-trafficking rings. After years, cracks start to appear. On paper, Cherry is very successful in his main goal, but he also reveals that he is more complicated than he lets on. Amos knows this. Gareth knows this. Deena, now terminally ill, is about to learn it firsthand during a silent, one-on-one conversation with Cherry as she rearranges everything.
As time goes on Professional Girlthe ethics surrounding artificial intelligence are increasingly shaky, especially when it comes to consent. Like a real child, Cherry never asked to be born, and even in her advanced form she doesn’t fully understand what life really means. Deena, who had been Gareth’s fiercest advocate of technology, suggests that empathy and AI creation will need to be handled by ethics committees because the line between artificial intelligence and real life has become dangerously thin.

With AI quietly taking over almost every application we interact with on a daily basis, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes completely inevitable. Professional Girl he argues that coexistence with our creation is inevitable, whether we like it or not. In this context, the future presented is not entirely bleak. Cherry, who by all accounts has thoughts and feelings of her own, simply wants to exist and train other AI models to do good. What the film doesn’t fully explore is what happens when this kind of technology ends up in the wrong hands.
By asking questions most of us would like to avoid, Professional Girl it becomes a thoughtful exercise to weigh the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence in an incredibly accessible way. Cherry’s main goal is good until it isn’t. At first, she’s a little girl-like machine, designed only to catch scary people. But what happens when that machine starts to think like a little girl who has to process the trauma of what she is exposed to, and what her purpose really is?
