The US Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Sunday it has reinstated a photo featuring President Donald Trump in the latest release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein after a review determined that the photo did not depict any of Epstein’s victims.
In a post to X, the DOJ said the photo was initially taken down “out of an abundance of caution” after the Southern District of New York flagged it for further review to protect potential victims.
After a review, officials concluded that no Epstein victims were depicted in the photo, and it was reposted without “alteration or retouching,” according to the DOJ.
“The Southern District of New York flagged the image of President Trump as an additional step to protect victims,” the DOJ wrote. “Out of an abundance of caution, the Department of Justice has temporarily removed the image pending review. After review, it was determined that there was no evidence that any of Epstein’s victims were depicted in the image, and it has been reposted without any changes or modifications.”

Earlier on Sunday, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the removal of the photo had “nothing to do with President Trump” and instead stemmed from the concerns of the women depicted, he said during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
The explanation comes after reports that at least 16 files disappeared from the DOJ’s Epstein-related web page in less than a day were posted Friday, without public notice or initial explanation, the Associated Press reported.

The missing files include one that shows a series of photos displayed on and inside the cabinet. In the closet, there was a photo of Donald Trump taken alongside Melania Trump, Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, AP reported.
On Saturday, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee condemned the removal of the photo, writing, “We need transparency in the American public.”
“This image, file 468, in the Epstein files featuring Donald Trump has now apparently been removed from the DOJ release,” Democrats on the House Oversight Committee wrote on X.[Attorney General Pam Bondi] is this true? What else is being hidden? We need the openness of the American public.”

The agency posted thousands of pages on a government website Friday related to the Epstein and Maxwell sex-trafficking cases. The files were released as a result of a deadline set by the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
