Filming season 5 of Emily in Paris came with a different set of challenges – and plenty of great graphics.
During a special interview with Us Weekly, Samuel Arnold seen by bringing a new Netflix series to life as Rome adapted to the death of Pope Francis before Pope Leo XIV was elected in his place.
“It made us feel like we were seeing history and culture,” said Arnold, who plays Julien. Us. “It was fun for me personally. It’s priceless.”
Season 5, which premiered Thursday, December 18, picks up after Emily (Lily Collins) continued with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) – in Rome. At the same time, Savoir was trying to open a new place with Julien, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and Luc (Bruno Gouery) to make the move again.
“From the first season until now, Julien has been growing in his confidence – working smart – and relationships with other characters. This season he really stands in his power,” commented Arnold. “The best thing about a show that chooses to film in cities like Paris or Rome is that we get to see the city in its best light.”
Arnold praised the creator Darren Starview of the show.
“He has a very good way of seeing things and making us see things. Many people fell in love with the city through the show,” he continued. “I believe that this season, we have given Roma the same treatment.”
Julien’s story took him to Rome but he found himself part of local drama – like being caught between Emily and Mindy (Ashley Park) a friendly fight.
“It was so funny. I thought that story was amazing. Actually, I’m looking forward to people seeing that,” Arnold said of Mindy’s brief sit-down with Julien. Those situations happen between friends.
He continued: “It also highlights the relationship between Emily and Julien, Emily and Mindy and Julien and Mindy. You see the place Julien has in this relationship. It was fun working opposite Ashley because I don’t get to do many scenes with her but when I do, it’s fun.”
Arnold loved seeing more of Julien’s life at home, adding, “We also get to see how Julian protects his place. He’s the type of person where if you ask for help, he’ll complain all day but he’ll help you in the end.”
Looking ahead, Arnold has a lot more on his wish list for Julien.
“I would like Julian to go. I would like Julien to start his own business – maybe his own sales company. I would like him to go to the states and maybe work there,” he suggested. “When you change the environment, you can bring more stories and more situations. I would like to see more of Julien’s journey and goals.”
Julien in America it has a nice ring to it, to which Arnold says, “Let’s go, honestly. Why not? Yeah, I like it.”
Arnold also pushed for Julien to explore his on-screen love triangle.
“I think Julian likes drama as long as it doesn’t affect him,” he said. Sometimes you don’t always get what you want. So we will see, this season or next. We’ll see if he gets caught up in another madness.”
