NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is making his first public comments since allegations surfaced against Portland Coach Chauncey Billips and Miami Guard Terry Rozier and a former player related to gambling.
“My first reaction was I was very upset,” Silver said in an interview during the Amazon Prime Video broadcast of the New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics Game on Friday. “There is nothing more important to the league and its fans than the integrity of the competition. I had a pit in my stomach. It was very frustrating.
“I apologize to our fans that we are all dealing with this situation.”

Silver added the NBA investigated and found no reason to judge Rozier when his case opens in March 2023 as a member of the NBA for unusual patterns involving “Poshier bets.”
“Luckily we couldn’t find anything,” Silver said. “Terry then cooperated. He gave the league office his phone. He sat down and did an interview. And in the end we concluded that there was no evidence involved.
“He’s still been found guilty of anything, in all fairness to Terry. Obviously, it’s not looking good. But now you’ve been put on administrative leave.”
Earlier Friday, Congress got involved.
The House Commerce Committee on Friday sent a letter requesting information on silver and a forum to obtain information related to defamation.
The Committee seeks five points of information from Silver:
“1. Details about fraudulent, illegal betting practices, and allegations of NBA players, coaches, and officials, including the actions of NBA players and coaches that have been identified in the past; and other previous circumstances,” the letter said.
“2. Actions the NBA intends to take to reduce the disclosure of non-betting information for illegal purposes for the purposes of illegal betting. 5 It is reevaluating the terms of its partnership with sports betting companies.”

The bipartisan letter was signed by six members of Congress on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
Rozier was arrested because federal officials said he bribed friends to help them win bets based on his math performance. Similar cases are similar to what Toronto Player Jontay Porter created before he was banned from the league for silver in 2024.
The Billips are facing charges of conspiracy to defraud and embezzlement for participating in what state officials called the Mafia’s protected poker games. He also aligns the authenticity of the person described only as co-conspirator 8 in the section that explains how some people gave the guardians access to the health information.
